Meity (Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology) has notified "Electronics and Information Technology Goods” Requirement for Compulsory Registration scheme under BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard) and mandating 15 categories of electronics items on dated 03.Oct 2012 and add the new categories on with notifications. Till date BIS mandatory total 45 categories under the Compulsory Registration Scheme under BIS.
“Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)”, the National Standards Body of India was established under The Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986. Under the scheme, BIS grants licenses to such manufacturers who are capable of producing goods conforming to relevant Indian Standards, on continuous basis. As per the notification notice under the CRS scheme, no person shall manufacture or sale, import, sell or distribute goods which do not conform to the Indian standard specified in the order.Manufacturers of Electronic products specified in the order are required to apply for registration from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) after getting their product tested from BIS recognized labs.
To support the product certification scheme, which requires testing of products on regular basis for checking conformity to the relevant Indian Standards, BIS has established a network of testing laboratories. All BIS recognized laboratories have to issue the Test Reports of products only in the name of manufacturer and details of products also need to be mention in the report according to the IS (Indian Standards) specified to product.
